Adam Jones is very good, Joe Posnanski!

By: Sonny Bunch

I’ve learned to live with big media types ignoring my Orioles. They probably deserve it, what with their decade of futility and soul-crushing contempt for the fan base. But I expect better from a stat-head like Joe Posnanski, who has crafted a list of the 100 best players in the major leagues, a list that contains nary a single Baltimore Oriole.

Now, I realize that much of the Orioles talent has yet to be realized: Matt Wieters is still a year or two from being a top tier catcher; Brad Bergesen is a rookie of the year contender, maybe, but not a legit ace; Brian Roberts is a little past his prime. But how can he exclude the two shining stars of the organization, Nick Markakis and Adam Jones??

OK, Markakis I can kind of see leaving off the list. His power has dropped off a little this year and his OBP is down. But Jones? Jones is on pace for around 100 runs, 100 RBI, 25 HR, and 15 SBs with a OPS of .853 on a team that is below average in the AL in almost every offensive category, all while playing excellent defense in center field. He’s a plus player in every single category. Heck, even Yahoo!’s fantasy standings have him as the 33rd best player in the league as of this moment. What am I missing here? Why do you hate Adam Jones, Joe Posnanski?
