AFF-New York Disscussed Detriments to Financial Regulation

By: Kathryn Shelton

On May 15, 2013, the New York chapter of America’s Future
hosted a panel discussion on the legislation that was passed in
response to the 2008 financial crisis, the Dodd Frank bill. The
panelists included CNBC’s John Carney, Collin Schwartz, a regulatory
attorney at Citi, and Ammon Simon, an attorney at the Judicial Crisis
Network. They led the audience through the historical incidents that led to
the passage of Dodd Frank, the liquidity requirements, and the effect
that this legislation will have on local banks as opposed to national
banks. Moderated by AF New York’s Chris Gaun, the panelists discussed
the legal ramifications of this legislation and where they thought the
legislation overstepped its bounds.

After the event, each of the panelists stayed at the venue, midtown
east’s Irish Exit, to answer questions from the 40 or so attendees.
