Atlanta Event Recap: Free Market Principles in Action
On March 26, 2013, at Hudson Grille Midtown, the Atlanta chapter of America’s Future Foundation was proud to host guest speaker Michael Shanklin, as he shared with the audience “Free Market Principles in Action: How a Free Society Might Operate.” Michael Shanklin is the creator of VoluntaryVirtues.com and has appeared as a guest on Freedom Watch, with Judge Andrew Napolitano.
Mr. Shanklin’s presentation opened with the basic premise that there are two means by which we as individuals can get what we want and need: the voluntary way, or the compulsory way. He explained that most all of our daily interactions with others would be categorized as belonging to the former. However, as government grows, it seems that people tend to look more and more to government compulsion as the only solution to our problems.
Michael Shanklin challenged the audience to think about how a free and voluntary society might be able to solve challenges related to a variety of topics, including infrastructure, health care, and law. After providing several examples of how a free society might operate, Shanklin closed by acknowledging that “…a free society is not a utopia, but is [the result of] understanding the principles sound economics.”
