DC Roundtable: Get Government Out of the Fridge

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Get Government Out of the Fridge!  April Roundtable

Just when you thought it was safe to grab a midnight snack, AFF brings you an April Roundtable entitled “Get Government Out of the Fridge.” From the perplexing USDA food pyramid, to Congress bravely declaring pizza a vegetable in school cafeterias, to the multi-billion agricultural subsidies dished out each year, many culinary experts are fed up with the clumsy, overbearing regulation and asking “Where’s the beef?” But should we really be thanking our gustatory government guardians for bravely defending us against the dreaded Pink Slime? Once our panel explains the many subtle and not-so-subtle ways government influences what you eat every day, you may never look at your plate the same way again.

Speakers:
Julie Gunlock, Independent Women’s Forum
Antonie Hodge, IHS and The Primal Challenge
Michelle Minton, Competitive Enterprise Institute
Baylen Linnekin, Keep Food Legal

DC Roundtable: The Gold Standard

Monday, March 5th, 2012

You’re Invited to a Roundtable on the Gold Standard

Is There Fiat Money At The End of the Rainbow?

Monetary policy in the United States is a complex subject at the best of times. In our current economic climate, even facts that should be obvious, like whether inflation is at an all time low or an all time high, are fiercely disputed. Decisions made by Ben Bernanke and the rest of the Federal Reserve board are more important than many of those made by elected officials. Perhaps instead of fighting over the merits of the most recent round of quantitative easing, it would be best for the country to take the issue out of the hands of the government and return to the gold standard. Join us to discuss whether a return to hard money would make us freer and help or hinder our economy.

Featuring:

Steve Davis of SpaceX/George Mason Economics
Rich Danker of Gold Standard 2012
Daniel Hanson of the American Enterprise Institute
David Barnes, Moderator

Taxation With (Inadequate) Representation? How American Women are Faring in Politics

America trails behind other western countries in terms of female political representation, but holding office is only one of many ways to participate in government. With the rise of the Tea Party as one example, women have become increasingly active across America, from the local rally to the national newsroom. At this roundtable, representatives from four different constituencies will examine the role of women in American politics and the importance of female representation.
