Two-Session Public Speaking Workshop
June 14 and June 21, 2012
6:30 – 9:30 pm
Competitive Enterprise Institute, Washington, D.C.
Whether speaking to a group of 400 in an auditorium or a group of four at the dinner table, you want to be confident and persuasive. Don’t let Americans’ most common fear — the fear of public speaking — keep you from advancing in your career.
America’s Future Foundation is partnering with the Leadership Institute for a Public Speaking Workshop on June 14 and 21 where you can learn how to become an effective, confident public speaker. The workshop includes instruction, course materials, and dinner. It’s going to be held at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, just a couple blocks from the Farragut North metro.
You’ll receive practical lessons, in-class exercises, and personalized feedback to make you a better, more confident public speaker. Specifically, you will learn how to:
Deliver speeches professionally
Overcome common fears about speaking in public
Organize and prepare effective speeches
Think on your feet in impromptu speeches
Your instructor will be Ian Ivey. He is a communications professional with decades of experience in public speaking instruction. You’ll benefit from his insight, real-world examples, and practical advice and tips you can start using right away. Specifically, Ian has been training people in teaching, communications, and argumentation for more than 20 years. He was the Director of Communications at the Leadership Institute, and now is a Senior Management Advisor at the General Services Administration.

Can we promote both religion and liberty? These ideas – often seen at odds with one another – frequently appear side by side in the news. Just this year a religiously motivated Rick Santorum reached out to the evangelical community, the United States Catholic Bishops rebutted some of the Obama Administration’s health care policies, and there is an ongoing debate about public displays of religion – all while we negotiate a tenuous relationship with Iran and the Middle East. It seems Church and State can never be fully separated.
We’ll be hosting three experts to weigh in on a variety of topics via questions from the moderator in a debate-style discussion. Please join us for this interactive event.

You are invited to bring your friends and colleagues to AFF programs. Not only will you grow our movement and expose more people to the ideas of liberty, but you can get valuable prizes too.
During the months of April and May, you will receive a raffle ticket for each person (new to AFF) that you bring to a roundtable, leadership dinner, or the gala. If the person becomes a paid AFF member (whether or not they attend a program), you will also receive a ticket!
There will be a drawing at the end of May to win some great prizes including free AFF memberships for a year ($500/$250/$100 value), an amazon gift card, or other exciting prizes.
A person new to AFF is defined as someone who has not attended any AFF programs for more than 12 months or not been a paid member for more than 24 months. Lapsed members or people who are not “new” to AFF do count as “new” for the purpose of this incentive. You will receive one ticket for each new person who attends an event and an additional ticket when that person joins AFF as a paid member. If that person attends multiple events, you will not receive additional tickets. This offer is valid for Washington, D.C. programs. The friend’s name must be indicated in the “how you found out about this event” box on the registration page, or indicated at the registration desk for a roundtable. Please direct any questions to Roger Custer at email@example.com or call (202) 331-2261.
