The New Right Union (NRU) Mission Statement:
“To expand freedom over the entire Korean peninsula and to build up the Republic of Korea into an advanced nation by positively inheriting the spirit of industrialization and democratization.”
As of March 7, 2006, membership in the NRU exceeded 30,000 people. The organizational goal of the NRU is to have 234 regional chapters and 100,000 members by the end of 2006 and 1,000,000 members by the December 2007 Korean presidential elections.
PASTOR KIM JIN-HONG was born in 1941 near Daegu, Korea. He earned his BA in philosophy in 1966 from Gyemyong University in Daegu and M. Div. in 1971 from Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Seoul. During the 1970s when Korea was under the military dictatorship of former general Park Chung-Hee, he ministered to the poor in Seoul’s shantytown and led demonstrations against the government for which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Pastor Kim’s sentence was later commuted to two years and upon his release, he led his congregation to a reclaimed land on Korea’s West Coast allocated by the government for the relocation of shantytown evictees, thus beginning his Doorae Community Movement that blossomed into a worldwide communitarian movement for Koreans both in and out of Korea.
Being a strong voice in Korean Christianity for ÃÂââ?ìÃÂ
?actions over words,ÃÂââ?ìÃÂàPastor Kim recently began mobilizing millions of Koreans who have grown increasingly concerned with the direction in which the current government is leading the nation and launched the New Right Union in November 2005.
Pastor Kim is the author of over a dozen books, many of which have been translated into English.
