AF Columbus: Can Conservatives and Libertarians Get Along?

By: Kathryn Shelton

AF Columbus, The Buckeye Institute for Public Policy, The Fund for American Studies, and The Federalist Society’s Columbus Lawyers Chapter joined forces to host Donald J. Devine to a packed house of 75 individuals at Due Amici in downtown Columbus, Ohio.  Currently the Vice Chairman of the American Conservative Union, Mr. Devine previously served under President Ronald Reagan as his Director of Personnel Management. He is also the author of America’s Way Back: Reclaiming Freedom, Tradition, and Constitution which discusses where things went wrong in American politics and proposes that a solution to that problem lies in the “fusion” of conservative and libertarian beliefs.

Mr. Devine discussed his experiences within the Reagan administration and the difficulties that face both conservatives and libertarians. The discussion was interesting and lively at times and afterwards Mr. Devine entertained questions from the audience.
