Didn't McCain have a decent proposal on this subject? It would be a good place to start, I think, even if it doesn't go far enough.

Healthcare is another area (rather like the housing market and many other fields) in which government intervention has caused the problem and then further government intervention is proposed as the solution. There are a number of reasons why your premium is so high, one of which is that the government put the burden of healthcare insurance on employers rather than letting individuals choose the policies that suited them and keep their policies whenever they switched jobs. I could go on at some length about the extra costs and market distortions this causes, but you're smarter than I am and can probably figure it out better.

And that's just one piece of the puzzle. There's also all the money paid out to lawyers and their clients, for example. And there's the narrow-minded and rigid exclusion from coverage of alternative treatments like homeopathy and acupuncture that are much less expensive (and frequently more effective).

Oh and then there's Bush. He's still the root of all evil, don't forget.
