So, the new Terminator movie is out, and it’s pretty disappointing. I’d probably put it on Pajiba’s list of most disappointing Summer blockbusters. But one movie that I’m not sure should be on that list? “The Matrix Reloaded.”

For all its faults — and there are many — “The Matrix Reloaded” still gets a pass from me because it has the single greatest 25 minute stretch of action ever committed to film: The Burly Brawl to the chateau fight to freeway chase is, to this day, breathtaking. Seriously, track down a copy on Blu-ray and watch it sometime. It is an amazing, amazing scene. When a Summer movie has what is arguably the greatest action sequence of all time, can it really be considered a disappointment? Even if the rest of the movie is an unholy mess — and “Reloaded” is a pretentious mess — shouldn’t it get a pass? I think so.
