Ben Smith reports that my old place of employment, The Weekly Standard, might have been one of the targets of the Holocaust Museum shooter. Commenter Chris Anderson chimes in,
The guy had the address of the Standard and the FBI checked to see if they had received any threats. They hadn’t. Where do you get the conclusion that this suggests the Weekly Standard was a possible target? If anything, it suggests that he was a FAN of the Standard.
Yup. It blows people’s minds that this isn’t a simple right/left thing: the shooter was full of hate, period. He wasn’t a “far-right extremist.” He was a “murderer.” He was a “terrible human being.” But the rush to categorize this guy as a member of the right because of his racism was somewhat shocking, I have to admit.
