I don’t have much to say about Michael Jackson; my colleague Kelly Jane Torrance has a fine write up of his career over at the Times’ website. I’m more of E.D. Kain/Jonah Goldberg school of thought on his death. The deification of MJ was as predictable as it is unseemly. Like Rod, I’m drawn to Michael Kinsley’s disgusted look at the gloved one’s upbringing and how it crippled him emotionally. I think the South Park guys nailed Jackson’s deeply creepy, childlike state of mind in an episode from a few seasons back. Embedded is a clip from the kids’ first encounter with the king of pop:
