Well-meaning people are concerned that the Red Dawn remake will just stir up xenophobic anti-China sentiment. Evan Osnos in the New Yorker:

The new movie will feature Connor Cruise, the son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, leading the fight against the invaders, and, like the original, it is guaranteed to be red meat for red-staters who see Reds hiding under every bed…

Before we begin hearing about the “hurtfeelingsoftheChinesepeople,” I would point out that this film also hurts the feelings of some American people who know we can do better than this.

Let me offer Mr. Osnos a hug, in the name of all those who feel the same way when Hollywood fills our screens with lefty cliches, a la Avatar.
