With the publication of his apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) in November 2013, Pope Francis ignited a firestorm of debate about his views on capitalism and free markets.  Some have interpreted this as evidence that the Pope is some kind of crypto-socialist, advocating for political systems that encourage the large-scale redistribution of wealth in society.  Others claim that the Pope’s message is being misunderstood and seized upon by those with a political agenda of their own.

So, what’s the truth?  Is Pope Francis an opponent of the free market?

Join America’s Future Foundation Chicago on Wednesday, June 25th at Sullivan’s Steakhouse for a lively discussion on Pope Francis and his economic view of the world.  Our featured panelists will be John Giokaris (AFF-Chicago, Chicago Young Republicans), David Masciotra (Indianapolis Star), Kara Mone (AFF-Chicago, Catholic Vote) and Emily Zanotti (NakedDC).
