Southeast Michigan Chapter Event: The Secret Lives of Legislators

March 15, 2017 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Detroit Beer Company

1529 Broadway Street, Detroit,

‘The Secret Lives of Legislators’ presents politics as it is, not as our teachers and professors taught us in school. Using stories from his days as a MI state legislator, local elected official, and legislative staffer, Leon Drolet illustrates the hidden incentives and pressures that politicians face and how those factors explain the often seemingly irrational decisions of elected officials.

Leon Drolet was elected in November 2006 to represent the residents of District 26 in southern Macomb Township. He was elected twice previously as the County Commissioner for District 16 in northern Clinton Township. Drolet, a Republican, previously served on the County Board from January 1998 to March 2001, when he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. He held the District 33 State House seat through 2006. For 20 years, Drolet has been an anti-tax advocate and a champion of individual rights and smaller government. He was statewide chair of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative. Drolet is a founding member of the Michigan House of Representatives’ Taxpayer Protection Caucus and is involved with Young Americans for Freedom. Drolet’s involvement in the community includes volunteering with the Clinton River Cleanup and the Clinton Township Goodfellows. Drolet studied Political Science at Oakland University and is a graduate of the Institute for Humane Studies.
