From Cupcakes to Chemicals: AFF Chicago Discusses Alarmism

By: Eric Kohn

The Chicago chapter of America’s Future Foundation convened at Sullivan’s Steakhouse in River North to discuss America’s exploding culture of alarmism — stemming from media, food and environmental nannies, and government regulators — with the Director of the Independent Women’s Forum’s Culture of Alarmism Project, Julie Gunlock.

Those in attendance listened to Julie’s story of how she went from a non-concerned supporter of limited government to a concerned parent reading “too many Mommy blogs,” and how her own research showed all the panic and hysteria stemming from these alarmist news stories ranged from overblown to completely false.

AFF-Chicago members received a complimentary copy of her book, From Cupcakes to Chemicals: How the Culture of Alarmism Makes Us Afraid of Everything and How to Fight Back and interacted with Julie one-on-one during Q&A. Members also took the opportunity to network with other Liberty Leaders before and after the event.

Eric Kohn is Chairman of AFF’s Chicago Chapter.
