This week’s picks of Must Attend Events will be sure to make all the policy wonks happy. Add in some professional development, and some libations and I call that a good week!

Monday, January 12th

 

  • 2015 Conservative Policy Summit

The Heritage Foundation, Allison Auditorium, 214 Massachusetts Ave NE, Washington DC

Registration begins at 11 a.m. Summit begins at 12 p.m.

Heritage Action’s CEO Michael Needham and The Heritage Foundation’s President Jim DeMint will kick of the first of the two day summit. The event will focus on the economic, social, and foreign policy solutions conservatives will be pursuing in 2015. This is the second year Heritage Action has organized this summit and this year’s theme is “Opportunity for All, Favoritism to None.” The summit features policy panels and keynote speeches from conservatives Ted Cruz, Jim Jordan, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul among many others. The summit is free and you can register through Heritage’s website.

 

  • Liberty Toastmasters Session

Charles Koch Institute, 1515 North Courthouse Road, Suite 200 Arlington, VA 22201

6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Beginning this year Liberty Toastmasters will be alternating its meeting locations from The Loft at 600 F to this week’s new location at the Charles Koch Institute’s North Classroom. Join other liberty folk as they network and learn to improve their public speaking skills. A Happy Hour will follow the meeting across the street at Ireland’s Four Courts. Tuesday, January 13th

  • 2015 Conservative Policy Summit (continued)

The second day of the summit will mainly focus on social policy and will be continuing the theme of promoting opportunity for all.

Wednesday, January 14th

  • Hidden in Plain Sight: What Really Caused the World’s Worst Financial Crisis and Why It Could Happen Again

3 p.m. – 4p.m. – Presentation and panel

5:00 pm – Book signing and wine and cheese reception

 

In this book forum, Peter J. Wallison, AEI’s Arthur F. Burns Fellow in Financial Policy Studies, presents his book, “Hidden in Plain Sight.” During the presentation he will argue that US government housing policies were the principal cause of the 2008 financial crisis and debunks other causes such as, financial deregulation, and credit default swaps.
