Via Andrew comes this short video giving a graphical representation of immigration to the U.S. from 1820-2007. There are all sorts of nits to pick with the data, no doubt, but it seems about right in the broad contours. Given the importance of U.S. immigration as an indicator of our global attractiveness, it will be interesting to see what happens to these flows in the coming years. Surely the financial crisis will hit immigrants, especially illegal immigrants, harder than most other groups.
