Succinct and to the point

By: Sonny Bunch

Who doesn’t love stumbling across one or two sentence descriptions that capture something we feel to be true but can’t quite articulate? In that vein I present Ben McGrath, writing in the The New Yorker on doomsayers:

The Malthusian movement has expanded with time into a kind of peaknik diaspora. Peak oil and peak carbon (i.e., global warming) are the heavies, with the most obviously compelling claims on our attention, and the greatest number of advocates; their relative standings swing in rough accordance with the price of gas and the latest hurricane news.

I mean, really, that is a perfect description of the environmentalist mindset.
