This weekend you will be spoiled for choice. Jeepers, there’s a lot going down.
Sports stars Carmelo Anthony, Michael Beasley and Clinton Portis will (inexplicably) be partying with Fabolous at Lux Lounge for the rapper’s new album Loso’s Way, scheduled to be released on the 28th. Bringing this flyer along will get you free admission from 10-12.
Head to Anacostia for the Honfleur Gallery‘s Summer Jamboree. Take in the gallery’s new exhibits and enjoy the (free) sounds of the Bellevederes, a soul-music duo from Baltimore. The event’s at 7 p.m. but the music doesn’t start until 8 or 9.
If you haven’t made it out to the Capitol Fringe Festival yet, note that this weekend is your last chance. Check out the schedule and pick a show. They’re generally cheap and a lot of fun. The Washingtonian recommends The Bargain Basement Game Show, a “mix of straight-up trivia and funny riffing between the show’s two hosts.” The $15 tickets can be found here.
Attention, jocks and their followers: the Bullpen, the outdoor bar and game area across the street from the Nats stadium, is highlighting athletic prowess on Saturday from 12:30 to 5:30. Battle of the Biceps, a strongman competition with events like keg tossing, fast pitching and arm wrestling, is only $10 for charity and the live music and drink specials will keep you busy if the muscles get gratuitous.
The Capitol Hip-Hop Soul Fest 2009 is at Marvin Gaye Park, starting at 11 a.m. There are free performances by Marcell & the Truth, Godisheus, Bomani Armah and Head-Roc.
Let your eyeballs dance at Graffiti Rhapsody at Bohemian Caverns from 5 to 11 p.m. Artists will be working on their graffiti creations, and the final products will be auctioned. Also: live music, body art, artists’ exhibits. Admission is $10.
Bluebrain is playing a free show at Comet Ping Pong @ 8 p.m. According to BrightestYoungThings, the last time Bluebrain played in DC was pretty legendary.
Speaking of Capitol Fringe, if you’re a fan of the festival don’t miss the free closing-night party 7 to 11 p.m. at the Baldacchino Gypsy Tent. The free event has drink specials, live music, and an awards ceremony.
For a little international flavor, head to the Peruvian Festival of Arlington at the Shirley Park/Gunston Sports Field (2700 S. Lang Street) from 11 to 6. There’ll be great peruvian food, lively music and lots of traditions on display. The event is free.
The Coolout on Beacon Hotel’s Rooftop is going to be relaxing. It runs 3 to 9 p.m. and offers free mojitos from 3 to 4. Live music by DJ Adrian Loving / Harry Hotter and Jahsonic.
