Why didn’t Blagojevich crash and burn earlier?

By: David Donadio

Michael Calderone writes that among other things, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich tried to pressure the Chicago Tribune to fire deputy editorial page editor John P. McCormick. Of course, the market is now doing what Blago can’t, but you have to wonder about the timing of this whole episode.

The Governor’s indictment has been months in the making. What were the feds waiting for? After all Blago’s misdeeds, did they really need to catch him trying to sell a U.S. Senate seat? You have to wonder whether the feds were afraid of political fallout if it looked as though they’d been trying to tar Obama by association and then he won the White House.
