A Preview of “Normalize This: Cuba’s Plantation Economy” with Alex Gimenez

June 30, 2015 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Whitehall Tavern

2391 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA

Join us as Alex Gimenez gives AF a preview of his upcoming presentation on Cuba titled “Normalize This: Cuba’s Plantation Economy.”

He will be giving a wide-ranging presentation on the politics and history of this strategically and geopolitically important island – and the communist regime that has terrorized and enslaved it for more than five decades as a satellite and exporter of terrorism for the former Soviet Union.

He will be drawing on thousands of hours of every day conversations with the Cuban exile community in Miami where he grew up, including conversations with refugee politicians, lawyers, doctors, businessmen, and others. He will share some of his conversations with defectors, ex-political prisoners, and even rafters who risked their lives, father, mothers and their children, to escape Castro’s prison island, across the shark infested Florida straits.

Mr. Gimenez’s own family fled Cuba in 1961 with only the clothes on their backs in the wake of the loss of life and property through the barrel of a communist gun. He will paint us a picture of what life has been like for the average Cuban both in Miami and in Cuba whose stories have largely been ignored or distorted throughout all the years of communist rule, which still exists to this day and will continue to exist . Don’t miss this important presentation on what life is REALLY like in Cuba, from the perspective of his own family and other families who lived it and survived it – and how it won’t change much with so-called “normalization.”
