AF-DC Hub: Naloxone Training and Costume Contest

With opioid overdoses at an all-time high, more communities are investing in innovative and low-cost intervention efforts — like vending machines stocked with free medical supplies — to help save lives. D.C.’s harm-reduction vending machines have pumped out at least 2,800 distributions of Narcan, Fentanyl tests, and other protective items since a pilot program launched last spring.

Join AF-DC for information on the safe use of Naloxone (Narcan)and resources for how to obtain your own supply in case of emergency on Tuesday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m.

We’ll mingle with some light bites, drinks, and candy then complete the American Red Cross Narcan Training online. (Bring your computers!)

You didn’t think we would forget it was Halloween, did you? Wear your SPOOKIEST (or most entertaining) costume (optional), and we’ll vote on the best costume after the training and enjoy more treats – no tricks!

American Red Cross Training Information:

The First Aid for Opioid Overdoses Online course will provide you with the knowledge and confidence you need to respond to a suspected opioid overdose emergency.You will learn to identify the signs and symptoms of a suspected opioid overdose and then the appropriate care to provide based on the responsiveness of the person.This course includes information on how to use several different naloxone products — a nasal atomizer, Narcan and EVZIO — to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. This interactive course includes audio and video and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.You must pass a final quiz to complete the course.
