The Overton Window: Learn, Persuade, Make a Difference (Virtual)

In what ways does public opinion constrain what politicians can do? How does change happen? How do you explain social movements? What determines which ideas politicians will support and which ideas will stay on the shelf? The Overton Window of Political Possibility is a model that explains how ideas influence policy. Named for the late Joseph P. Overton, senior vice president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, the Overton Window pervades culture, showing up in news reports, television shows, best-selling novels, academic literature and political commentary. The Mackinac Center’s executive vice president, Michael Reitz, will discuss the Overton Window and how you can become more effective to persuade on ideas and issues that are important to you.

Join us at 6:00pm to meet and network with other young professionals from across Michigan. The remarks will begin at 6:30pm, with more networking to follow. As always, we’ll have free food and your first drink is on us.
