Hipsters are so GD ridiculous
I loved the lede of this story in the New Yorker about shopping in Brooklyn. It’s behind the pay wall, but here’s a taste:
A few years ago, a hat was found in Brooklyn. It was found in Park Slope, a leafy enclave of Victorian brownstones and Romanesque Revival houses. This is the neighborhood where parents recently won the right to bring kids in strollers into a local bar. The Good Samaritan who had found the hat posted a notice on the Park Slope Parents Web site, with the subject line “Found: boy’s hat.” “Adorable navy blue or maybe black fleece hat with triangles jutting out of it of all different colors,” the announcement went. “For older child.” Days of enraged online debate ensued: What makes this a ‘boy’s hat’? Did you see the boy himself lose it?” HOW DO YOU KNOW it’s for an older child? What does this say about younger children who happen to have large heads?””It’s innocent little comments like this that I find the most hurtful.”
Sigh. Like I said: ridiculous.
