About the Moving Picture Institute:

The Moving Picture Institute is a modern-media production house and talent incubator that creates and supports high-impact film and video content designed to entertain, inspire, and educate audiences with captivating stories about human freedom.

At MPI, we are driven, restless, and ambitious. We are constantly developing new content, crafting new marketing and educational initiatives, collaborating with like-minded groups, and coordinating with distributors to ensure that the broadest possible audiences see our films, and that our content has the greatest possible impact.

The Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for creating and executing a  comprehensive communications and marketing infrastructure and strategy for both MPI generally and for MPI Original productions.

Key responsibilities include creating written and visual materials for all of MPI’s audiences, conveying information and impact surrounding MPI and its films in order to solicit support, expand our networks, and grow our audiences. The Director of Communications and Marketing will create and manage communications and marketing calendars and work with MPI staff and third-party vendors to ensure that MPI’s materials and message are crafted to the highest standard and delivered on schedule.

The Director of Communications and Marketing shall:

  • Maintain and update the MPI website and all project-specific sites;
  • Produce MPI publications, such as annual reports, brochures, blog posts, website text, press kits, look books, educational marketing emails, high-dollar donor emails, and emails to general list; this includes working with designers and printers as needed;
  • Write, proof, and edit written MPI communications materials to a high standard;
  • Maintain a master impact encyclopedia suitable for seeding communications;
  • Manage MPI’s brand by maintaining a library of MPI photos, branding, and design assets, and by ensuring that our language, logo, and messaging strategies are consistent across audience constituencies;
  • Manage marketing and communications budget, optimizing expenditures with an eye toward reach and engagement;
  • Set communications goals and track impact, both quantitative and qualitative, using a data-driven approach to refine strategy;
  • Create and manage a comprehensive organization-wide communications calendar.

The key goals of the position are:

  1. To create and manage consistent and optimally effective messaging language and digital strategy within MPI and across MPI’s audiences and constituencies;
  2. To capture and catalogue impact for use in development and communications materials;
  3. To write and produce materials that engage MPI supporters, filmmakers, and film audiences, moving them to support MPI, participate in programs, and watch MPI films.

Evaluation will center on the Director of Communications and Marketing’s success in: framing and executing effective strategies for public messaging and audience growth; building comprehensive communications and marketing infrastructures for both MPI and WTI; executing beautifully designed and impeccably crafted digital and printed materials; ensuring consistency of brand and message; and timely management of and communication around calendars.
