Our Founders knew that for our freedom to endure, Americans need to understand the principles of self-government and their rights and duties as citizens. The Ashbrook Center’s educational programs help Americans learn what it means to be an American and understand why they ought to love their country.

The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in advancing Ashbrook’s critical mission. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate, articulate, and persuasive leader to take a highly regarded organization to new levels of success and influence.

About the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University

Inaugurated by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, the Ashbrook Center is an independent educational center at Ashland University, located in Ashland, Ohio.

The Ashbrook Center seeks to restore and strengthen the capacities of the American people for constitutional self-government. Ashbrook teaches students and teachers across our country what America is and what she represents in the long history of the world. Ashbrook creates informed patriots.

Through our Academies for high school students and our Scholar Program for university undergraduates, Ashbrook helps the next generation of leaders to understand why America is worthy of their study and love, and equips them to take important roles in our country’s civic life.

Through our programs for teachers that include on-site seminars, graduate programs, and educational resources like our TeachingAmericanHistory.org website, Ashbrook works with thousands of teachers every year to take on the critical national challenge of preparing American history and civics teachers to educate new generations of Americans. Ashbrook’s content-rich teacher education programs are nationally recognized for offering seminar-style conversations based on primary source documents. Ashbrook’s approach encourages teachers to supplement or replace textbooks and teach the actual story of America by engaging in discussions that help them to understand the history of our country through the words and deeds of those who lived it.

For citizens, Ashbrook offers educational programs on and off the Ashland University campus, and publications encouraging Americans to develop a deeper understanding of the history of the country and the principles upon which our great nation was founded.
