AF Dallas Asks: Do Charter Schools Work?

By: Kathryn Shelton

On January 30, young professionals in Dallas gathered for a round table discussion on charter schools in Texas as a part of National School Choice Week.

Tracy Young, Vice President of Public and Government Affairs at the Texas Charter Schools Association, led the discussion. She discussed current charter school cap laws in Texas, charter school performance and effectiveness, and the potential for expansion of successful charter and ISD schools in the state. The guests were very engaged, asking how they as young professionals could make a difference. Tracy suggested that young professionals get involved with their local school boards in order to make a difference. After a great discussion, attendees mingled over drinks and appetizers, and left enthusiastic to promote school choice in their state.
