Chapter Highlight: New York City and the De Blasio Administration

By: Kathryn Shelton

On March 13, 2014, the New York Chapter of America’s Future Foundation hosted a roundtable to discuss the recently elected New York City mayor, Bill De Blasio and his proposed areas of policy focus.

Guest panelists included Nicole Gelinas, a Searle Freedom Trust Fellow at the Manhattan Institute who writes about New York City politics for City Journal; Robert A. George, a senior contributing editorial writer for the New York Post; and Karol Markowicz, an opinion writer for the New York Post and small business owner in New York City.

The discussion, which was moderated by AF New York’s Jared Stone, included topics such as universal pre-Kindergarten policies, the ban on horse-drawn carriages, charter school co-location and how these policies will affect economic liberty in New York City for the years to come. All of the attendees were able to voice their opinions and were enriched by the discussion.

A special thank you to AF-NYC Chair Ashok Chandra for this post.
