Grunfeld negotiated a six-year, $111 million contract extension with Arenas in July 2008. Arenas was coming off two left knee surgeries and had played in only 13 games in the 2007-08 season. He underwent a third surgery in September 2008, and despite vowing a quick return, played just two games last season.

I believe Grunfeld as much as I believe any other professional sports coach or general manager, which is not at all: They’re practiced liars and particularly deceitful people. But this is just as I wrote earlier this week. Gilbert Arenas is going nowhere, and the recent fire sale of the Wizards supporting cast proves it. Grunfeld made the mistake of signing Arenas to that absurd contract, and he’s going to have to live with it…as will all the rest of you.
