Playing the race card

Noemie Emery has a fun article in the Weekly Standard that track the efforts of all sorts of liberal pundits’ to brand President Obama’s critics as racist. Clearly, it’s no accident that Harry Reid compared the opponents of ObamaCare to the defenders of slavery.

But is this kind of silly accusation more common now that we have a black president? Emery says yes. I disagree.

To be sure, I don’t have any quantitative measures of how often Democrats play the race card. But I can say with a fair amount of confidence that the White House does its absolute best to steer clear of this kind of spin. Without leadership from the White House, it’s hard for the party or the pundits to follow suit.
