A letter from Sean Hannity

By: David Adesnik

Fundraising letters are always great material for blog posts. Often because they say the craziest things to get you riled up and open your wallet. But this one was a little unusual. Writing on behalf of the Heritage Foundation, Hannity turned his fire on Republicans in Congress. He didn’t single out moderates or RINOs or anyone else. It was just all guns blazing at the entire delegation, which:

Over the previous eight years…boosted spending to record levels; guaranteed the largest tax increase ever by failing to make the Bush tax cuts permanent; failed to secure borders; and maybe worst of all, allowed the left to define the agenda by keeping silent.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but a party’s in trouble when its entire delegation on Capitol Hill has become the base’s whipping boy. On the other hand, many conservatives consider the lesson of the Gingrich Revolution in 1994 to be that attacking a timid congressional delegation is essential to making a fresh start.

Regardless, I think it’s a little unfair and more than a little illogical to attack congressional Republicans for ensuring “the largest tax increase ever.” All of a sudden, these guys are worse than Jimmy Carter and George McGovern because they only cut taxes for a decade, not forever.
