Join Us In Helping Those Affected by Natural Disasters in North Carolina and Tennessee
Dear AF Community,
I invite you to join me in giving to help those affected by natural disasters in North Carolina and Tennessee. After these disasters, we rely on government interventions and large organizations funded by large federal grants, which move slowly. Time after time, we see how slowly these institutions move, leaving our neighbors in crisis for years and behind generations of Americans and small towns. In times like these, we need small nonprofits and civil society organizations to meet specific needs promptly. We need neighbors helping neighbors and doing small acts of kindness that make a significant impact.
My friend Ezra Wyrick is helping organize folks in Eastern Tennessee to meet the needs of his neighbors. I invite you to take his invitation (below) seriously. America’s Future Southeast Hub is grateful for its effort and eager to assist our neighbors affected by the tragedy.
Thank you,
Chris West, AF-Southeast
A Note From Ezra:
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s harsh effects on the broader Tri-State Area, Far-Eastern Tennessee – particularly the largely rural communities in Cocke, Washington, and Greene Counties – needs emergency support. The devastation wrought by the flooding has left communities reeling, with the most basic human necessities—especially clean drinking water—becoming scarce.
The situation on the ground is critical:
- Water Shortages: Distribution efforts are struggling heavily to keep up with demand. Clean, drinkable water is being consumed much faster than it’s being delivered.
- Baby Supplies: Parents face shortages of essentials like diapers and formula, impacting the youngest and most vulnerable.
- Hygiene: Hygiene has become challenging with widespread flooding, increasing the risk of serious health issues. Hygiene products are rapidly disappearing and are needed desperately.
Our response has been swift but requires more support:
- Thanks to many generous small-dollar contributions, we’ve raised $1,350 through an independent fundraiser, with every dollar dedicated to purchasing and distributing critical supplies. However, this is just a drop in the ocean of the need.
How You Can Help:
- Donate: Every dollar you contribute translates directly into relief. Whether water, diapers, or hygiene kits, your donation makes a tangible difference.
- You can do so securely here
- Spread the Word: Utilize platforms like X and Instagram to amplify this message. Awareness can unlock more resources and help those in dire straits.
- Volunteer: If you’re local, consider volunteering your time to help us. Delivery and distribution efforts require many hands, and your presence can be invaluable.
- Direct Supplies: If you can access any needed items, consider dropping them off at our collection points. Physical contributions are as vital as financial ones.
- Collection points are found here
Why This Matters:
Beyond the statistics and headlines, there are real people—our neighbors, friends, and families—whose lives have been upended. This isn’t merely about rebuilding structures but restoring lives, hopes, and futures.
While resilient, the spirit of East Tennessee’s community now calls out for support. Your help, be it through donations, sharing information, or even direct volunteering, could be the lifeline that someone desperately needs. Let’s unite to transform this crisis into a narrative of recovery and hope. Thank you for your kindness, time, and commitment to helping. Together, we can and will make a difference for these people who have suddenly lost everything.
Thank you, and may God bless you.
Thank you,
Ezra Wyrick
