Cheney: I respect Prof. Kagan

By: AF Editors

Once again, we’re talking about Liz, not Dick. On the same panel where she condemned the Bush administration’s “failure” on Iran, Cheney noted that Elena Kagan had been one of her professors in law school and that Kagan was scrupulously fair-minded. Cheney then pivoted to a condemnation of Kagan’s “radical” effort to keep military recruiters off campus, but that seemed a bit forced. (As before, no transcript available, but it’s all on the April 11 FNS podcast.)

So, if even Liz Cheney has that many good things to say about Kagan, it seems her confirmation by the Senate would be relatively easy. Emphasis on “relatively”. We’re a long way from the old days, when Republicans could vote overwhelmingly to confirm Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Most will now have to vote against Kagan simply because she’s liberal. But it will be a half-hearted fight.
