DC sucks, or something
Via DCist, I see that Gawker took the time to rip on DC last week. This is, of course, not the first time someone from NYC has felt the need in recent times to proclaim their superiority to our dumpy little town.
I find posts like these odd, in the sense that when you’re in a clearly superior position it doesn’t make much sense to draw attention to clearly inferior positions: you just ignore them. I seriously doubt a Harvard grad would write up a thousand words on why Rutgers is an inferior school. A UVA student has nothing to gain by comparing his school to Longwood.
All of which is a long way of saying “Of course New York City is a better, more fun place to live.” It’s also suffered a pretty serious drop in prestige since, you know, their primary export has caused the worst global financial crisis since the great depression. And when you’re extolling the virtues of New York, you probably shouldn’t write stuff like this:
Your DC congressional staffer is typically a well-meaning (or formerly well-meaning) dork who dresses and drinks like he did in college. Or they’re just fratty assholes.
Yeah, because if you exchange for “NY banker” or “NY lawyer” for “DC congressional staffer” that sentence doesn’t make any sense at all, does it? No fratties in I-Banking, that’s for sure…
