Episode 4: The Many Faces of Cryptocurrency, with Fernando Villar

By: AF Editors

This week we had the amazing opportunity to talk with Fernando Villar, founder of CoinMaestro and a cryptocurrency investor and expert. Fernando started investing in cryptocurrencies all the way back in 2015, after reading the famed Bitcoin whitepaper. With his economics background, Fernando immediately saw how crypto technology would transform the way people interacted and transacted online, and began to dedicate his time to learning more.

During the 2020 crypto boom, Fernando saw how many people were entering the market being over their head at best, and being taken advantage of at worst. In response, he founded CoinMaestro, an educational service dedicated to helping people from all walks of life begin their crypto journey and avoid scams, hacks, and many other common crypto obstacles. After all, his biggest piece of crypto-related advice is “don’t trust, verify.”

Check out our conversation with Fernando, covering his own crypto experiences, how connecting with his Cuban roots helped his personal journey, and how sometimes a little hubris is necessary to keep making progress.

“You will see a lot of regulation – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Treasury, the SEC, the CFTC, they’re all getting together and trying to figure this out, because they don’t really understand it. In the future we’ll need younger people to get into office and change the narrative and take the boogeyman out of this.”
