Those who oppose automation consider it a threat that will destroy the future of America’s labor force and lead to a increase in unemployment. Those who support automation argue that this is already happening and will make our daily lives much easier, leading to a more connected and technologically savvy society.

Join AF-Detroit on October 20 for a virtual discussion as we analyze and review the pros and cons, and if this could mean a major threat to American labor for years to come.

Glenn Stevens Jr. is the executive director of MICHauto and serves as the Detroit Regional Chamber’s vice president of automotive and mobility initiatives. In his role, Stevens provides strategic direction and leadership to the MICHauto program in its efforts to promote, grow and retain Michigan’s automotive and next-generation mobility industries. MICHauto is the voice and convening body for Michigan to address key industry issues for talent, advocacy and awareness. Stevens Jr. has more than 25 years of experience across the automotive, steel, specialty chemicals, and capital equipment industries.

Ida Byrd-Hill is an urban futurist, economist, educator and tech guru. She is CEO of Automation Workz Institute, a post-secondary certification school that is gaming skills-based training utilizing video games, digital simulations and an ISA to expand tech diversity exponentially. AWI provides consulting and upskilling across Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, Linux/Python, Analytics, Digital Marketing, Fraud Examiner, innovation, invention and diversity subjects. Ida has 30+ years of professional business experience including piloting public – private partners that led to the turnaround of Detroit Public Schools and the creation of a cyber alternative schools.

Moderator: Brandon Brice serves as Detroit Chapter Leader for the America’s Future. Brandon has worked on Capitol Hill in the Office of former U.S. Speaker J. Dennis Hastert. Brandon later was appointed as Director of Education Affairs in the Office of former New Jersey Governor, Hon. Chris J. Christie. Brandon serves as Board President for Advantage Health of Detroit and is a member of the American Enterprise Institute, Leadership Detroit and the Michigan Political Leadership Program.
