Gun Control and Mass Shootings

March 28, 2018 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Calls for stricter gun control have returned in the wake of the horrific school shootings across the country.

Some of the policy proposals are familiar: universal background checks, closing the so-called gun show loophole, and banning high-capacity magazines. Some are new, such as raising the age to purchase a rifle from 18 to 21, banning bumpstocks, and a firearms restraining order to temporarily remove guns from hands of people who might pose a danger to others. Some are radical, like banning all semi-automatic weapons.

Would any or all of these ideas have prevented the Parkland shooting, or others like it? What would work to prevent, or at least reduce, mass shootings? What can we do to address the everyday gun violence that occurs in some Chicago neighborhoods?

Join America’s Future – Chicago for a discussion on gun control and gun violence.

Admission is $10 and includes complimentary food and two drink tickets. Cocktail hour at 6pm. Discussion at 6:30pm.
