Sports betting is a big business in the United States, despite being legally confined to just a few states almost half a decade ago. In 2017, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association that the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act violated the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This ruling led to the legalization of sports betting in some form in 38 states and the District of Columbia.
Now, not a commercial break at a major sporting event goes by without an ad for sports betting.
With calls for greater regulation growing, how will states respond? What can we learn from the way different states approach sports betting?
Join America’s Future and Ali Bartlett, a partner in both the Gaming and Election and Political Law Groups at Bose McKinney & Evans, for a virtual discussion on federalism and gaming.
The first 40 people who register will receive a Starbucks gift card on us to enjoy during the event, so be sure to reserve your spot on Eventbrite! Questions? Email Chloe at chloe@americasfuture.org.
