The article points out:

But the Treasury secretary might want to heed something of a caveat legislator: such a dragnet could quickly catch a handful of Obama’s top appointees.

As one of my coworkers recently remarked, it seems there is a threshold below which you can evade taxes and be fine. Daschle’s $128,000 = bad; Geithner’s $34,000 = ok; Ron Kirk’s $10,000 = ok. The tipping point seems to be somewhere in between that range, although Geithner actually seems to be getting the most bang for his unpaid buck…
