Pressing question

‘Juno’ is on HBOW right now, and I’m struck by a question that I can’t remember was ever really acknowledged by that film: What if Michael Cera’s character had wanted to keep the baby? I mean, I get that Juno wanted to give up the baby because she was in high school and all: that seems reasonable to me. But what if Paulie (MC, in all his glory) had been UNreasonable? Would he have had any say in the matter? SHOULD he have?

I respect this movie for tackling the dreaded ‘a’ word more forthrightly than most, but I still feel like it sidesteps far more questions than it answers. Another one: Is Diablo Cody more annoying than Ellen Page? Because I feel like one of them is to blame for the overall cutesiness of this absurd joint.

Also, can I just say that I’m kind of thrilled about the reinvigoration of The American Scene over the last couple of weeks? I mean, I’m sad that it came largely at the expense of Culture11 (or so it would seem to me), but I’m glad to have musings from Suderman, Salam, Millman, Manzi…….AND MORE!!!!…….all in the same place? I realize this might seem like a nonsequitor to you, but I assure you that this post was largely inspired by the random postings of Salam and Suderman over the past three or four days. Just wanted to let you, our loyal readers, know.
