The High Life

By: Sonny Bunch

Mr. Yglesias is joking, right? When people talk about wine-track vs. beer-track Dems, the beer track doesn’t mean $8 pints of Brooklyn Winter Ale in Manhattan. Hipsters drink $4 cans of PBR because it’s kitschy; rural types drink $6 12 packs of PBR because it’s cheap.

Overpaying for microbrews at Whole Foods and Heinekens at the Eighteenth Street Lounge is the same exact thing as being on the “wine track.” A few select beers being more expensive than Bud and Miller doesn’t change the fact that beer remains, at heart, the most downscale alcohol option one tends to have after work.
