What to Expect Heading into 2024

By: Anthony Miragliotta

There are two weeks left in 2023 and 2024 will be here before you know it. While 2023 had its highs and lows, there is a lot to look forward to heading into the new year. In 2023, we experienced the power of the Swifties, the rise of Tommy “Cutlets” DeVito from the New York Giants, and the indictment of former President Donald Trump. We even had crazy food trends such as the grimace shake and many silly TikTok trends. Let’s look and see what we have to look forward to in the new year!

1. The 2024 Presidential Election

We enter the new year with a brand new election cycle. Candidates are already lining up for re-election, or just getting into the swing of things, in the hectic campaign world. Campaigns are hiring staffers who are then willing to drink six cups of coffee per day. There are numerous competitive races all over the country. If you have the time to volunteer for a campaign, I highly recommend it. The camaraderie is always enjoyable, and the best part is the free pizza! The big race in 2024 will once again be for the White House as President Joe Biden is up for re-election after defeating former President Donald Trump in 2020. 2024 is looking like it will be a rematch of 2020 as both presumptive nominees have very high approval ratings from their party. It will be interesting to see who pulls out the win. Abortion, the economy, and the urbanization of the suburbs are likely to be key issues heading into the new year.

2. College Football Conference Realignment

For all you sports fans out there, huge changes are coming to college football next year with numerous teams switching conferences. The Pac-12 will most likely dissolve while the SEC and the BIG 10 are locked and loaded. Oklahoma and Texas are heading to the SEC from the Big 12 while USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington are headed to the BIG 10 from the Pac-12. These two conferences will remain the strongest in the country. The SEC is home to Alabama, Georgia, and Florida while the BIG 10 is home to Michigan, Ohio State, and Rutgers. It will be interesting to see if these teams can adapt to their new conferences just fine or if it will take time to measure This happened to Rutgers when they moved into the BIG 10. The program has shown signs of progress under head coach Greg Schiano.

3. iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Release

Every new year calls for new phones, that is, if you are that guy or gal who buys a new phone every year. These new model phones will bring enhanced artificial intelligence (AI), new emojis, and better camera quality. 2023 showed the launch of AI. 2024 will be the real test of how far AI will go. The only hope is robots will not take over the world. That would be a huge problem.

4. NFL to Host A Game in Brazil

For the first time, the NFL will be hosting a regular season game in Sao Paulo, Brazil with the teams set to be announced in early 2024. It is a major expansion of the NFL International series as Brazil joins the United Kingdom and Germany in hosting NFL games. Brazil is also set to host a regular season game in 2025. It will be the first time in NFL history that there will be an NFL game hosted in the Southern Hemisphere. The upcoming Super Bowl will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada: home of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Wherever you are spending your holidays, I hope you all enjoy the holiday season with your family and loved ones and a much joyous and blessed 2024!
