AF-Austin: Radical Discourse Screening and Panel Discussion

November 14, 2024 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Violet Crown CInema

434 West 2nd Street, Austin, Texas 78701

Join AF-Austin as we host a screening of Emergent Order Foundation’s newest rap battle: Immigration: Open Borders vs. Controlled Borders.

“I’m just a bill… Yes, I’m only a bill. And I’m sitting here on Capitol Hill!”

If that jingle rings a bell, you know Schoolhouse Rock made learning about America’s toughest topics fun. But a lot has changed in the 50 years since it aired—today’s issues are more complex, civil discourse is at an all-time low, and truly balanced debates are hard to find.

Studies show that 80% of students report self-censoring their viewpoints, and as a result, some questionable ideas are spreading fast. A rising number of young people now hold favorable views of communism, 56% believe humanity is doomed by climate change, and 40% don’t want to have kids. But one thing hasn’t changed: music still has the power to connect, inspire, and educate.

Radical Discourse is bringing that back with a fresh approach—enter the Schoolhouse Rock of the 21st century.

Come for free drinks, popcorn, and the video screening, stay for an interactive panel discussion featuring Jessi Bennett, producer of this groundbreaking project.
