Learn it, Live it, Love it: The 10 Year Challenge Edition

Learn it:

Discussions about the pros and cons of immigration are a dime a dozen these days, but one aspect of this conversation that doesn’t seem to be brought up much is an exploration of why people migrate. What conditions, political pressures, or dangers are they facing that lead them to pack up their homes and families and head somewhere new. The Legatum Institute has a helpful report on global people movements that provides context to what’s behind the massive migration we are seeing across the world.

Then, here are two excerpts from one of my favorite publications, Kinfolk: Grit and Becoming Wise.

In my last installation, I mentioned several events taking place in DC this weekend, here’s a little reminder. We’d love to see you at one or all of these. If you post on social, add #affinaction to share what you’re up to and to follow all the excitement.

1. The March for Life: The March for Life takes place Friday, January 18, on the National Mall. At the close of the event, AF will host a discussion with Intercollegiate Studies Institute from 4-6 pm.

2. LibertyCon: AF will be hosting a luncheon with Talent Market and Novus Society on Saturday the 19th at 12:15 pm as well as co-hosting that evening’s social with Young Voices.

P.S. We were able to secure free conference registration for AF members; use code “AFF” when registering.

3. The March for ALL Women rally is ensuring all women’s voices are heard and championed at the event, not just progressive ones. I’ll be joining a great line-up of speakers. Join us to honor and celebrate women of all stripes and creeds.

P.S. Tickets just went on sale for Reaganpalooza 2019, this event is sure to sell out so buy early, buy often!

Learn it, Live it, Love it: The 10 Year Challenge Edition 1The “Ten year challenge” has taken the internet by storm this week, and I was inspired to take a look at AF then and now. Ten years ago I was the DC programs manager for AF, hosting galas and roundtables and leadership dinners. AF had one full-time employee and a band of talented part-timers making all the magic happen. If memory serves, we were just testing the waters for AF on the Road, the program that would become our chapter program.

Learn it, Live it, Love it: The 10 Year Challenge Edition 4In 2019 AF, I have the privilege of now serving as the executive director, we have a full-time team of 5 and 27 amazing chapters around the country. What a difference a decade makes!
