Make An Intern's Summer: Be A Mentor
Whether you are recent graduate or a seasoned professional, you probably remember the difficult decisions you faced at that critical crossroad of life. No matter the preparation, the transition from a college campus to the working world was most likely a stressful one. Now you can positively influence a young person and gain personal satisfaction in the process.
The Fund for American Studies is searching for working professionals to be apart of their D.C Mentor Program. All professional fields are welcomed especially those working in journalism, law and international relations.
About The Program
The D.C Mentor Program is designed to provide students with a well-rounded “Washington Experience”. Students are matched with area professionals based on career interests and background. Mentors will help students by offering career guidance, helping to review their resume, share insider tips and offer general advice on life in D.C. Students in this program undergo a rigorous application process before being accepted into one of the TFAS program. They’re serious about their internships and want to get the most out of their experience.
The Mentor Program requires an 8 week commitment from June 5-August 3. Throughout the program mentors will meet face to face with the mentee at least once in June and once in July.
Through out the rest of the summer students attend one of six summer programs that combine coursework with nearly full-time internships. Program areas include:
- Political Science/Public Policy
- International Affairs
- Lobbying/Business
- Journalism and Communications
- Nonprofit Sector
- Legal
Throughout the Mentor Program, students and mentors will have the chance to interact through various activities such as attending a Nationals game and afternoon Bar-B-Ques.
