What’s Budding?

By: Matthew Hartill

“April showers bring May flowers.” Or so they say…

The showers haven’t stopped, but the web has been budding some great content. Are you looking to be more effective at work? Need an opportunity to build your skills? Or maybe you just want some intellectual food for thought? Either way, here are a few useful links and tid-bits. What have you been reading lately?

CULTURE: Millennials Hate Capitalism Almost as Much as They Hate Socialism

We know that Millennials tend to lean… well… all over the place. Some polls and studies point toward socialism. With the rise of a loud and hard-to-ignore progressive movement, that seems plausible. But, don’t run for the hills to hide from the Bolsheviks just yet.

Striking a sustainable balance between the two may take some hard work.  Kasey Ashford narrows the search to 5 concrete behaviors. Read more here.

IDEAS: Corruption is Subtler Than You Think

Cato Institute’s Trevor Burrus argues:

Trust people to make honest, respectable choices even in the face of political ads. Distrust politicians who believe you’re incapable of doing that.

Long story short? It’s complicated. Corruption has a long and convoluted legal history. In many ways, legal definitions of ‘corruption’ miss the mark and allow for even more misconduct.  For the longer story and some potential fixes, check out the article here.

OPPORTUNITY: Have a blast

If you’re in DC on May 26th, you can get access to the biggest gala for young libertarians and conservatives. AF’s Annual Gala is a great place to meet business partners or make a toast with your next boss. Don’t worry, you’re also allowed to simply have a blast eating, dancing, and drinking.

Have I caught your interest? Then hurry up and get a ticket before Friday, when prices go up!
