Writing Fellows Program Turns Five!
In the fall of 2014, America’s Future Foundation kicked off the first session of the Writing Fellows Program with just seven aspiring young writers in Washington, DC. In the five years that have followed, the program has grown exponentially and now boasts 235 alumni from across the country who provide an important voice in media, policy, and beyond.
With the mainstream media in the US flooded with liberal writers and editors, the freedom movement needs talented writers who believe in free markets and individual liberty. This six-week program trains liberty-minded young professionals in writing for policy, journalism, and more, and teaches them how to get published.
After three years of strong in-person cohorts, the program expanded to offer a virtual fellowship option during the Spring 2017 session, giving those outside Washington, DC, the opportunity to attend the in-person sessions via video conference. This quickly became such a successful and popular option for writers across our nationwide network that we decided to launch a separate virtual-only fellowship. This expansion provides aspiring or new journalists, marketers, policy researchers, and analysts working to promote freedom in the states the opportunity to grow their writing skills and portfolios.
Alumni of the Writing Fellows Program have gone on to work as reporters and opinion writers at prominent media outlets, as staffers in the White House and on Capitol Hill, and as senior fellows at think tanks. They’ve taken their free-market values to the pages of Politico, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Examiner, National Review, Reason, Forbes, the Daily Caller, and many others — totaling over 7,000 published pieces (and counting).
In honor of the five year anniversary, we’re is excited to welcome a special keynote speech by Jonah Goldberg, fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former senior editor at National Review, at the annual Writing Fellows Alumni Dinner on September 17.
Through each Writing Fellows Program cohort, the ranks of liberty-minded writers across the country grow larger and stronger. We encourage all freedom-loving writers across the country to make your voices heard in the mainstream media and learn how the Writing Fellows Program can help you make a difference for freedom.
