About the Program

The decline of traditional local newspapers has led to a significant gap in coverage of state and local level issues of major importance to Americans’ everyday lives. AF’s Local Reporting Seminar equips aspiring reporters with the necessary skills and connections they need to be effective journalists.

Over the course of four weeks, participants will hear from experts in the field on how to develop and interview sources, navigate public records laws, and build a career in local journalism.

This online program will meet on Thursday evenings between May 14 – June 4, 2020, from 6:30-8:00 pm.

Previous completion of AF’s Writing Fellows Program is not required.

How to Apply

Applicants will need to submit:

  • Completed application
  • A resume
  • Two published writing samples (no more than 1,000 words each)

A letter of recommendation may be sent to josh@americasfuture.org, but is not required.
