People confuse me
I honestly don’t understand why some on the right were freaking out last week about Obama’s speech to school children. What’s the problem? I agree that the lesson plans that accompanied the speech may have been a little questionable (I probably wouldn’t want my kids to have to answer how they would “pledge to serve the president,” or whatever the quote was), but since when do conservatives freak out about the man who holds the office of the presidency talking to their kids? Bizarre.
All of which is to say that I largely agree with Adam Baldwin over at Big Hollywood.
Count me among those who find a U.S. President delivering a speech to students–especially one encouraging them towards academic responsibility and excellence as a means to productive adult citizenship–among the more innocuous, and potentially beneficial activities of the Office.
Also: I’m kind of excited that Adam Baldwin posted a blog at the conservative Big Hollywood.* His “My Bodyguard” is one of the most underrated movies of the early 1980s, and it’s always a pleasure to see him pop up as a character actor.
(*Note: He’s not a member of the Baldwin clan. I mean, I suppose he’s a member of a Baldwin clan. Just not the one headed by Alec.)
