Where have you gone, Shirley Manson?

Honestly, I had no idea there was a huge, DC wonk demand for the return of Shirley Manson (or a Manson-like figure). I mean, I don’t even know if I could include myself in that category: I was never a huge Garbage fan. I dug the singles well enough, but they were never really my thing.

That being said, I feel like there’s a huge market for hard rock/pop punk bands with female lead singers. Why are there so few? I know the music snobs hate bands like Paramore–note that DCist’s critic listed their Sunday set at the VFest under “omissions, intentional”–but judging by the crowd reaction (and, truth be told, the impressiveness of their set), the demand is out there. Where are all the girl rockers?
